PHILOSOPHY – We believe that every student, at every age, was created for a specific purpose. It is the responsibility of the parents, mentors, and teachers to train each student to fulfill every part of that purpose. At Crown, our students learn academics in order to prepare them for the world and for additional education, however they also learn about who they are, how to relate to others, and how to manage the resources that God has given them to succeed in their lives.
CURRICULUM – Our younger students are given a strong foundation in Language Arts, Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science. (Our reading program is heavily based on phonics.) However, in addition to our curriculum, students accomplish countless hands-on activities throughout the week to reinforce what they are learning. They also learn time-management and goal setting through independent and group work. Our Early Elementary class is creative, fun, loving, active, and strongly academic.
Math – McRuffy Press
Language Arts – Superkids Reading Program, We also follow National Standards for each grade level to ensure that students are staying on track with their peers nationally – projects are completed based on students interests and strengths and weaknesses
Social Studies – Project Based Learning using SC State Standards, Field Trips
Science – Project Based Learning using SC State Standards, Field Trips
SCHEDULE – All students in grades K-12 participate in Morning Meeting together at 9:00. Here we pray and Worship together and discuss any announcements. About 9:20 our Early Elementary students will go to their room for Morning Exercise time, followed by their morning activities. They will then begin Morning Work Block. Individual or group instruction will take place during this time, as well as independent center work. The students have lunch and recess together and sometimes will be joined by older students who will serve as mentors to the Early Elementary students.
When the students return to class they will have a quiet rest or independent reading time before an afternoon work block. Again, group or individual lessons will occur, as well as independent work. Pick-up begins at 3:15. After-school care, if necessary, is provided for an additional fee.
Friday is an optional day for all Crown students. Because many of our students pursue extra-curricular activities on Fridays, there are fewer students in attendance. This allows for more individualized help from teachers for any students who are struggling in any particular subject area.
