Our Approach

IN ACADEMICS, EACH STUDENT HAS AN AMAZING PLAN.

Individualized Education Map − We work with students to develop an Individualized Education Map  that identifies academic goals,  skills, group and individual projects, and pacing.  Each IEM anticipates written and oral presentations delivered electronically.  Although the Curriculum Coordinator and parents oversee the child’s progress, students take responsibility for short and long-term goals in their agenda.
Because of their long-standing success in creating resources for classrooms, we often use Houghton Mifflin Harcourt products as curriculum. Here is a sample list of curriculum choices or learning methods that we offer for our students. Our primary goal, however, is that each individual student is learning at his or her very highest level of potential success, so this list is always growing and evolving.

INTERESTS PURSUED WITH PASSION - In addition to rigorous, self-paced learning designed to meet state and national academic standards, our approach incorporates in-depth projects, based on individual interests, that begin with research and lead to oral and written presentations. Students hone leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Creativity − Crown teachers are passionate about presenting information to students in a creative and individualized manner.  This student-centered approach nurtures critical thinking:  not merely remembering but understanding, not simply summarizing but articulating causal relationships, problem-solving, and application of learning to life.

We encourage students to express creativity in completing coursework.  Students who think for themselves and have curious minds will exercise these gifts and fulfill their highest goals. As General George Patton said, “Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.”

IN OPERATIONS, THE WORLD IS OUR CLASSROOM.

Schedules − Students attend classes Monday through Thursday.  Fridays are reserved for exploring special but related interests outside the classroom.  These may include research-based work/study programs, internships, special projects, artistic performance development, or other activities designed for and by the student.  Teachers, students and parents together locate opportunities that students explore to understand the small and substantial ways their unique gifts can change the world.  Students earn class credit upon successful completion of goals.  Optionally, students can attend school at Crown on Fridays but should be ready with work at 8:45, just like any other school day.
Hours are 8:45 to 3:30.  Each morning begins with Prayer, Worship, and our School Meeting where we discuss issues that are effecting our school, community and world.  Holidays and important dates are located on this website.
In addition,  Crown allows distance-learning arrangements to accommodate family travels and other out-of-town experiences.

Homework − We desire our students to be well-rounded individuals who experience a balanced life that includes time with family and participation in sporting, artistic and community events. Therefore, rather than daily skills practice, homework at Crown is limited to reading and preparation for tests, presentations and projects.

WE CHANGE THE WORLD.

Christianity  − Crown is a nondenominational Christian school that is open to all teachers and students who desire to grow spiritually, display an openness to the Holy Spirit, and have an ever-increasing vision for the use of their talents to effect change in the world.

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” John 17:20-21

At Crown, we commit to uniting in love with all Christians to change the world. In everything we do, students learn they are uniquely created by God to bring great value to the world,  now and throughout their lives.
